How FODZYME® interacts with fructose malabsorption and hereditary fructose intolerance

We have received some questions from our customers on how FODZYME® interacts with fructose malabsorption and hereditary fructose intolerance. We are happy to to help clarify this for you.

FODZYME® is designed to aid in the digestion of FODMAPs, which are specific types of carbohydrates that can cause digestive discomfort for some individuals. Here's how it relates to fructose malabsorption & hereditary fructose intolerance.

  1. Fructose Malabsorption: FODZYME® does not directly address fructose malabsorption. This condition involves the body's difficulty in absorbing fructose in the small intestine. While FODZYME® helps break down fructans (chains of fructose molecules) into simpler sugars, it does not convert fructose itself. Therefore, it may not be effective for managing fructose malabsorption specifically.
  2. Hereditary Fructose Intolerance (HFI): FODZYME® is not suitable for managing hereditary fructose intolerance. HFI is a genetic condition where the body lacks the enzyme needed to break down fructose. Individuals with HFI must avoid fructose entirely, and enzyme supplements like FODZYME® are not appropriate for this condition.

For both conditions, it's essential to consult with a healthcare provider or a registered dietitian for proper management and dietary advice. FODZYME® is not a substitute for medical treatment or a fructose-free diet when medically necessary.

If you have any further questions about FODZYME® or its applications, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help!
